Andrew Dibner
on his
"CubeArt"
I draw constantly. I draw to express my feelings, my thoughts,
to communicate them to others and to clarify them to myself.
I draw to simplify what I see -- to catch the unique elements of
the beauty of a limb, a child's cheek.
But sculpture is my other passion. The aesthetic or emotional
impact of sculpture is, to me, far greater than its imitation
in 2-D painting.
I
finally discovered MY art when I discovered "Cube Art".
By forming a cube from brazed wire, I create a frame in which to
draw in three dimensions by bending and brazing wire.
The possibilities are endless.
In many Cubes I build dynamic relationships between the elements,
involving comparison, tension, or temporal sequencing. I want the
viewer to feel there are forces at work, there is something going on,
something is about to happen.
Some
Cubes are more static but invite interpretatin (a story)
about contrasting geometric forms. In other Cubes I try to
delight the viewer with simple abstractions - - the nude or
some whimsical event.
CubeArt
is made using steel wire, with brass as the brazing medium
at all joints. The Cubes are 11" x 8" x 8". They are durable,
can easily be
wall mounted and present effectively changing forms as one walks by.
Shadows of the wires on the wall produce enhanced effects.
My journey
in art has been a long and varied one, with instruction
in drawing, sculpture, ceramics, painting, photography,
and printmaking, through dozens of courses in art schools and centers.
All while working as a clinical psychologist, college professor and
finally as an inventor and business entrepreneur.
